SHREVEPORT, LA - On Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus visited The Glen Retirement System. The Glen hosted 180 students in the Kindergarten & Early Childhood Education classes from Eighty-First Street Early Childhood Education Center. Refreshments were served and each child received a gift from Santa. Mrs. Claus read a story as the elves prepare the gifts. The children sang Christmas songs to the residents. As the children left the room they each received a stocking prepared by the residents from our four communities within The Glen Retirement System.

Research shows that interaction between the young and the elderly improves physical, mental, and emotional interaction for both groups as well as improving social development in children. This event is made possible through The Glen’s Community Outreach Program. Eighty-First Street Early Childhood Education Center has been part of The Glen’s Community Outreach Program since 2004. This is the second year that The Glen Retirement System has been awarded a grant by the Jess Merkle Foundation to help fund the event.
