- The joy of Christmas is especially great for children. And when three classes of kindergartners from Eighty-first
- Street Early Childhood Education Center arrived at The Glen to share a Christmas celebration with the residents there that joy was infectious.
As they got off the bus, the kids were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus and then also by Connor and Zipper, pet therapy dogs. The children enjoyed refreshments of cookies and juice as they sat on the floor, while Mrs. Claus read a Christmas story and the elves prepared gifts. Afterward, the children sang several songs for the residents who had gathered.
Excitement reigned as the gifts were distributed by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The children were told not to open them until everyone had theirs. Finally the word was given and they tore into their sacks to find a toy and a Christmas stocking. The boys each got a football and the girls received a doll. The stockings were made by the residents at The Glen. As they left ,the children showed their appreciation with hugs and kisses.
The event was made possible through The Glen's Community Outreach Program. This year, The Glen Retirement System was awarded a grant by the Jess Merkle Foundation to help fund the event.
