According to the Assisted Living Federation of America, “today assisted living is the most preferred and fastest growing long-term care option for seniors.” Assisted Living communities provide the security of a 24 hour staff that offer residents assistance with daily activities such as: bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming eating and getting around.
In the State of Louisiana, regulations forbid Assisted Living communities from administering medications. Only reminders may be provided to those who are cognitive of the medications being taken.
It is inevitable that most persons beginning to need assistance with daily activities are reluctant to forfeit their independence, but in most cases, an Assisted Living community may be a more economical option than home care services.
