Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), or Nursing Homes, may exist independently or may be part of a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community). Residents may access a Skilled Care community for a short term of rehabilitation or may be in need of long term care. State and Federal regulations determine the services that a skilled care community can provide.
These communities provide 24 hour nursing care to people who are unable to care for themselves due to physical, emotional or mental conditions. Each resident’s healthcare is supervised by a physician and supported by licensed nurses or other medical professionals who are always on premises.
When short term rehabilitation is needed in a Skilled Care environment, the community is supported by a variety of professionals such as Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
In the incidences of people needing long term care due to chronic disease and increasing frailty, skilled care is the appropriate setting under which licensed nurses and extended staff can attentively care for an individual.
