Since 1898, The Glen Retirement System has benefited from the support of our local community. As a not-for-profit organization, it’s because of the community’s financial support as well as the dedication of our volunteers, that The Glen has been able to stay at the forefront of our industry. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community, The Glen is able to serve current and future seniors in our area as their needs progress.
Part of The Glen’s mission is that we diligently give back to our community that has been so gracious to us throughout the years. Our Community Outreach Program is an extension of our organization that is constantly expanding in our efforts to better serve those in our community.
Paws With Purpose
Since 2000, thanks to the money from The Zadeck Family, Paws With Purpose has been providing animal companionship to residents at The Glen. Visits from our therapy dogs provide entertainment, a welcome change from routine, renewal of old friendships, and encourage people to be more active and responsive during and after visits. These visits can even offer a welcome distraction from pain and infirmity. The Glen’s therapy dogs assist in therapy exercises with the assistance of our talented therapy team in our onsite rehabilitation program.
Bentley & Buttons, our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, are our two most active working dogs. Both were bred by the Cline Family, owners of the award winning Forest Creek Cavaliers. For more information on where these pups came from, please visit www.forestcreekcavaliers.com. We also have Molly Adelle, who was adopted and has been a wonderful addition to our team. All three of our dogs are registered through a curriculum set forth by Pet Partners: www.petpartners.org. The Glen feels that this credibility ensures that the dogs visiting residents living in our communities are appropriate. We also have several wonderful volunteer Pet Partner teams that make it possible to reach even more residents at The Glen each week.
Paws With Purpose would not be possible without the support of donors and sponsors. We would especially like to thank the following sponsors for joining us in our efforts to support this program, and help us sustain its viability within our organization and beyond our walls: Mr. and Mrs. Vinton Cline, Drs. Debra and Kevin Cline, Christus Health Shreveport-Bossier, and The Wheless Foundation.
