Why We Love Shreveport

Why We Love Shreveport

As part of the Shreveport community, The Glen is proud to be a part of a city that has a lot of benefits. If you do not know a lot about the Shreveport–Bossier City area, here are a few items that factor into why we love calling this community home.

The People and Places

Shreveport-Bossier City is home to outstanding restaurants, a number of casinos, musical and arts festivals, plus plentiful shopping and outdoor recreation. The people are friendly, laid back and always accommodating.

Additionally, the cities of Shreveport and Bossier City are home to Barksdale Air Force Base, Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, the Shreveport Symphony, the Shreveport Opera several hospitals/health care systems and many other attractions.

The culture and history

As the largest economic and cultural center of North Louisiana, the cities of Shreveport and Bossier City are rich with history (as are Greenwood and Mansfield). The metropolitan area was first established in 1836 when a development corporation saw an opportunity to start a community where the Red River and Texas Trail met. Shreveport immediately became a steamboat commerce hub and quickly grew from there. There have been ups and downs over the years, as there are with any city, but this is what builds character and makes the Shreveport metropolitan area the strong community that it is today.

The community support

Finally, the Shreveport community supports its residents and has several outreach programs to foster their emotional and physical wellbeing. At The Glen, we partner with many programs to maximize the happiness and mental health of our residents. This community support is vital and is a big part of our mission. Some of the organizations we network with are:

  • Shreveport Bossier Convention and Tourism Bureau
  • Shreveport Chamber of Commerce
  • Bossier Chamber of Commerce
  • Barksdale Air Force Base
  • Overton Brooks VA Medical Center
  • LSU Health Shreveport
  • The Strand Theatre
  • Shreveport Symphony
  • Shreveport Opera
  • And many others
